Rent School Edition
Set in the East Village of New York City, Rent School Edition is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, it has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages.
Based loosely on Puccini's La Boheme, Rent School Edition follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. The physical and emotional complications of the disease pervade the lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom and Angel. Maureen deals with her chronic infidelity through performance art; her partner, Joanne, wonders if their relationship is worth the trouble. Benny has sold out his Bohemian ideals in exchange for a hefty income and is on the outs with his former friends. Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, feels like an outsider to life in general. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical.
Rent School Edition is exuberant, passionate and joyous. Schools will love the freedom and flexibility that this show offers; minimal costuming and sets are required. This adaptation has been carefully done, working with the Larson estate to retain the dramatic intent of the groundbreaking rock musical, and consists of minimal changes to language and the removal of one song ("Contact") to make it possible for many schools to perform this piece.

Hello, I had a general question about what materials are included in the school editions. Is doing a school edition title like doing a Jr./KIDS title, where you get a show kit that you get to keep (ie. the scripts) and do you get the accompaniment CD included with the show or do you need to get that separately?

Rent a graduate production
I'm a senior student from National Taiwan University of Art Drama department. We are planning to perform "Rent " as our graduation production. We want to know if it is available, and how much does it cost to buy the copyright. Thanks for reading and answering the question.
For Rent: Do rights need to be secured for high school students competing with a single scene at our State Drama Festival?
Our students are able to compete with scenes from musical theatre this year. The scene can only be five minutes long and is adjudicated by a professional (theatre teacher, college professor, or professional working in the field). My students are looking to perform a scene from Rent. Do they need to secure rights and pay royalties to perform a scene for our State Drama Festival?
Since Rent is on tour, is it available to community theaters?
