Mulan and/or Once on this Island Junior
Has anyone done the junior versions of Mulan or Once on this Island? We are running out of junior shows to do, and these are two we haven't done yet. I have some concerns about both. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Rent the School Edition
Our school is contemplating proposing RENT: TSE for our fall musical. We have roughly 2,500 students in medium size city in Wisconsin. We are looking to find other schools who have produced RENT as a means to address questions we may have. We have strong student support for the show, but we are mindful of the community reaction. Here are some questions that we have;1) What rationale did you use in the proposal of RENT?2) Did you have issues with males or females playing the roles of: Angel, Collins, Maureen?3) If you produced the show, did you receive any backlash from teh community, or were they pretty supportive?Any recommendations or personal antidotes about your production will be helpful for us in making our decision. Our plan is to overview the perusal, and then we would like to talk to some of the schools that produce the show before pitching the show to our administration. If we receive teh go ahead, we will have a student and parent meeting to talk about why we are doing the show.

Every child gets a line?
Hello fellow theatre artists and educators!I've been doing children's musical theatre for over 2 decades, and I have seen a disturbing trend happening over the past few years that I would love to get your opinions on.It seems that lately I have had a LOT of parent complaints around the casting of the musicals. They don't understand why I can't give every child a speaking role. And they imply in their emails that it is not a product of the fact that the shows just don't have lines for 30-60 characters, but that it is, in fact, my fault that not everyone gets a line.Have any of you experienced this? I hate to admit that I may be a relic. Back when I started doing theater, people won their role. You auditioned, and maybe you didn't get in and maybe you did. Often times, just being cast was a major victory in itself. Then at the community theater level, companies started popping up that removed the competition of auditioning altogether. They introduced "if you pay... you're in." And now it seems to be evolving (devolving?) into "I paid, so my kid should have a role that must have at least one line, if not more."I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to explain the value of an ensemble, and that the popular shows that they all want to do are just not written for 30+ roles, and that sometimes a young actor is not yet READY to take on a role. It has required writing up contracts, handbooks, and holding parent conferences to set expectations on casting. And yet I still get the complaints.Am I going crazy? Anyone else experiencing this?

"crap game" language for elementary school G&D, jr.
Has anyone who's done Guys & Dolls Jr. run into any issues with parents becoming upset with the language of the "crap game"? I'm in the middle of auditions, and one of my parent volunteers thought parents would be sensitive to the word "crap". I explained that it doesn't mean "excrement" in this sense at all, it's a game of dice, but now I'm worried. It's so integral to the plot and constantly mentioned throughout the script...do I need to be concerned?

What songs are on the choreography DVD for Seussical Jr?
Trying to prep for auditions on Friday and we haven't received the ShowKit yet. I just don't necessarily want to duplicate effort by choreographing something that is already done for me. ;-)Thanks!

Hi, I am currently on the slate to MD Seven Brides..... and The Wedding Singer. I am looking for more specific score questions: difficulty of parts, superfluous parts, etc. If any of you MD's or Conductors are willing to field my questions or refer me to specific websites, chatrooms, etc. I would really appreciate it. I am trying to recruit my players early as the good ones tend to be booked up by the time the actual material arrives. Thanks
