Julius J. Epstein

Julius J. Epstein graduated from Penn State University in 1931. With his twin brother, Philip G. Epstein, he wrote plays and screenplays. Their plays include: CHICKEN EVERY SUNDAY and FRONT PORCH IN FLATBUSH (which the musical SATURDAY NIGHT is based on). Their films include: ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (1944), CASABLANCA (1942), THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS (1954), THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER (1942), MR. SKEFFINGTON (1944), and SATURDAY S CHILDREN (1940). The Epstein brothers won the Academy Award for CASABLANCA. Other screenplays by Julius J. Epstein include REUBEN, REUBEN (1983), CROSS OF IRON (1977), SEND ME NO FLOWERS (1964), and YOUNG AT HEART (1954). He received the Writers Guild of America Award for REUBEN, REUBEN. He also received a Career Achievement award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association in 1998.
