"Butterflies" you say?
Three days and counting until I will again have the distinct pleasure of being with 2000 plus students and teachers that LOVE the musical theater world at the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta. Can't wait to see you perform and just share what we all love the best. Many of you ask for ideas to help kids with "butterflies", stage fright, WHATEVER you want to name it! Here is an iTip for all of you who are performing this weekend or this year in your own space! Break a Leg!
•iTip for “STAGE JITTERS” Performers of all ages occasionally surprise themselves with strange physical reactions before a performance. It might be as ordinary as giggling, nervous talking, feeling dizzy, dry mouth or sweating like you have run a race! If this is you, the trick is to channel your nervous energy into positive energy which helps you perform at your best! • Try focusing on the character you are portraying and not yourself • Picture yourself having an extraordinary show (visualize the standing ovation!) • Write it down to make it real • Take a deep breath in from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head • Find an inanimate focus point in the back of the performance area (an exit sign, a doorway etc.) and perform to it as if it was your favorite aunt. • Keep in mind that it’s good to be a perfectionist and set high goals for yourself, however, don’t set standards so high that they are unattainable. • Have the time of your life!
