Casting
Character Breakdown
As the cast for Evil Dead The Musical can range from 8 performers to an unlimited number of performers, here are some tips on how to reduce or expand the cast to your specific needs:
To use a smaller cast, roles can be doubled as desired. As a reference, the following is how the roles were divided in the Off-Broadway production using an 8-person cast:
ASH (no additional roles)
CHERYL (also played MOM CUSTOMER)
ANNIE (also played SHELLY, POSSESSED WOMAN)
SCOTT (also played CUSTOMER 2 and BEAVER)
LINDA (also played FLIRTY CUSTOMER)
JAKE (also played EVIL TREE, CUSTOMER 1)
ED (also played MOOSE, EVIL TREE, CUSTOMER 3)
FAKE SHEMP* (played KNOWBY, AIRPORT ANNOUNCER, LINDA’S HEADLESS BODY, EVIL FORCE, SEVERED HAND, EVIL TREE)
*Smaller casts always use at least one actor as a FAKE SHEMP. Basically, this role is one person playing many of the non-leading roles in the show. You can also use multiple FAKE SHEMPS and divide these roles as you desire.
A housewares employee who turns into a chainsaw-wielding hero
Ash’s dorky sister who turns into a brash, foul-mouthed demon
Ash’s perfect girlfriend who loses her head by the end of the show
A brilliant, overly-talkative archaeologist.
Ash’s crude best friend.
Annie’s boyfriend who can’t get a word in.
A guy who they meet in the woods.
A talking moose head that is mounted on the wall.
A 60-year old professor who owns the cabin.
